10 Verses for a Broken Heart

About two years ago. I went through my first real heartbreak. It was one of the most awkward and heartbreaking moments of my life. I had only been in church for two years then, and this was the very first true test that I was placed in since I began my walk with God.

I was confused, and I went through a hard time trying to figure out what the Lord was trying to show me. I was left on my own, and it felt as if I had absolutely no one by my side. Most of friends weren't with me. My parents were far away, and it was just a really tough time for me.

Days passed, months passed and eventually I learned to depend solely on the Lord. I would meditate on His word daily, and I would speak with Him. I was angry at first because I didn't understand, but later on I realized that maybe all of this happened because God did not want me to depend on people but on Him.

At the time I would read a lot of verses that would give me strength and hope for the future. I would like to share with you 10 verses that helped me get over a really rough time in my life, and I hope that you are strengthened by theses verses as well.

If you are suffering in any way, remember the strength and power of God.

1. He is Close to the Brokenhearted

"The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; He rescues those whose spirits are crushed." -Psalm 34:18

2. He Gives Rest

"Then Jesus said, 'Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.'" - Matthew 11:28-30

3. He Gives Strength

"For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength." -Philippians 4:13

4. He Heals and Bandages

"He heals the brokenhearted and bandages their wounds." -Psalm 147:3

5. We are His

"But now, O Jacob, listen to the Lord who created you. O Israel, the one who formed you says,“Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you. I have called you by name; you are Mine." -Isaiah 43:1

6. He Gives Peace

"'I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.'"- John 14:27

7. He Has Power That Works Through Our Weakness

"Each time He said, “'My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.' So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me." -2 Corinthians 12:9

8.  He Will Take Care of US

"Give your burdens to the Lordand He will take care of you. He will not permit the godly to slip and fall." -Psalm 55:22

9. He Makes Everything Work Together for Our Good

"And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them." -Romans 8:28

10. He Will Never Fail Us

"So if you are suffering in a manner that pleases God, keep on doing what is right, and trust your lives to the God who created you, for He will never fail you." -1 Peter 4:19

These are only a few. There are so many more verses in the Bible that can guide you on your path to healing.

What ever you may be struggling with at this moment, whatever battle you are fighting just remember that with time things get better. There are steps that one takes in the process of healing. I took them during this rough time of mine, and I eventually understood everything. In every difficult situation we face we are made stronger, and we are NEVER abandoned by God.

It's not over. It is only the beginning. You will one day begin to feel happy all over again. Rejoice today. Rejoice in the fact that God is on your side. Always remember that. May the Lord bless you tremendously. Keep smiling my Kindhearted family. I love you all.

  1. I need all of these verses. I'm still trying to get over a (non-Christian) guy I fell pretty hard for months ago. I find that prayer, practicing thankfulness, and constantly reviewing good reminders in scripture like the verses in this post are crucial. Thank you so much for sharing with refreshing honesty, Lizbeth!
