Stripes + Florals: 4 Tips on Mixing Patterns

{Outfit Details: Shirt: Thrifted / Skirt: Thrifted }
Mixing patterns terrifies me. To be completely honest I have never really been brave enough to mix anything, but once I tried this particular outfit on, I didn't feel so afraid anymore. I admit that I have had a few fails when it comes to my fashion choices.

I once saw a picture on Pinterest of a woman wearing yellow and red, and I decided to try it because it looked good on Pinterest. I tried it, and I felt confident. Then someone asked, "Are you seriously wearing red and yellow?" Then my self esteem hit the floor hard. Never again have I worn the Ketchup + Mustard combo.

Let me give you a few tips on Mixing Patterns. I am no expert, but I have observed many who have tried this practice and who have succeeded at looking flawless.

1. Choose a Dominant and an Accent: Choose a pattern that you would want to take the spotlight, and then choose another that will simply accentuate the dominant pattern.

2. Keep it in the Family: If you choose patterns that are in the same color family, they just work! If you have trouble finding out what colors work with each other Pinterest always helps! Just search "Beige Outfit" for example, and you will get a lot of beige outfits that people have put together. It is truly helpful!

3.  Play around with Neutrals: When you mix a pattern don't be afraid to accessorize with neutrals such as a beige bag or watch or heels!

4. Play Around With Your Choices: Don't be afraid to play around with different patterns, you might just find one that works.

Don't be afraid to try, or if you are maybe try something that you know works well. Eventually you will find yourself dominating the Mixed Pattern Party! Until Next time!
