Braided + Messy Half-Do Inspired by Aspyn Ovard (Brunette Edition)

I don't know about you guys, but I am an avid watcher of Aspyn Ovard's videos. Her video editing is perfection, even her Instagram is perfection. Besides her sweet and bubbly personality, her hair is always styled beautifully. Not so long ago I ran across this picture on Aspyn's Instagram and I feel in love. I am always looking for creative new ways to style my hair, given the fact that I always wear it in loose waves. I know that my hair is in desperate need of something new and fresh.

This thick braided half-do is one of my favorites because you can wear it with straight hair like Aspyn or with waves. It is perfect for Summer, and for those lazy days where you don't want to spend hours styling your hair. Speaking of Summer, it is so close! I am excited for the sun and the beach and the outdoor activities, but I am saddened by the heat. I am not a big fan of heat, but I suppose I will have to deal with it for a few months.

The only thing that keeps me going during the hot summer days is ice cream, pools, fruit, and smoothies. That's all I have to look forward to. Well anyway let's prep for summer with this gorgeous and simple half-do. Grab a smoothie and let's begin.

Step 1: First you will part your hair into three different sections. The first section will be the typical half do as seen in picture 1.

Step two: Secure the bottom section with an elastic. Also, separate a small section from the top section. (This will be used to wrap around the the top of the braid.)

Step 3: Braid the larger section into a regular three-strand braid and secure with an elastic.
Step 4: Wrap the small section around the top of the braid and secure with bobby pins. (Remember to hide your bobby pins.
Step 5: Tug on your braid and make it as thick as you would like.

Aspyn's braid is not very thick, but it is thicker than usual. I chose to make my braid extra thick for a two reasons; first, I love a good chunky braid, and second, since my hair is dark it makes the braid more visible.

Once you're done, let go of the bottom section, and you are free to roam the city flawlessly...or the beach, suburbs, forest, or your home...that is if you don't live in the city. I am in love with this because it is so simple and easy, and I can recreate it in less than 5 minutes. Anyways make sure to check out Aspyn's channel. She has new videos every week, so you definitely don't want to miss that. Thank you guys so much for reading. Always tag me on Instagram if you try out any of these hairstyles. Until next time family!

  1. This is beautiful! You did such a good job replicating Aspyn's! Do you think something similar could be done to mid-length hair? I recently chopped 8 inches off and am in a bit of a styling rut ;)

    1. Thank you so much! What I love about it is that you can do it with straight hair and with waves. Thank you for reading Katelyn. :)

  3. Looking good! You have a lot of hair--I'm just a tad jealous! Brunette and wavy is my favorite kind of hair, but mine doesn't look good long so I always wear it short.
